But I want it so bad. I don’t play too many modern games and I only have one 1440p monitor (144 hz though), so I can’t really justify getting rid of the 5700XT for a 6800XT. However, I am also an adult who rationalized about $4k worth of camera equipment this year, so there’s a chance I can justify it.
Anyone else stoked for actual competition in the PC graphics card space again?

As a guy who actually paid money for an RTX 2060... I’m not really in position to say anything, lol.

We all make mistakes.

I am. My rig is woefully outdated and I’m ready for a full, ground up rebuild.
I just hate the idea of spending 2-3 grand on something that’s just for fun.....

You own a GTI, clearly fun is important to you. You don’t even need to worry about German electronics on this one!

To get the benefit out of new video card I would need to upgrade the rest of the PC and the monitor. So basically build a whole new unit for a new GPU. Glad to see some good competition, even I can’t take advantage of it right now.

As noted elsewhere, I’m feeling like it’s about time for my 1070 (especially now that I’ve switched out my 2560x1600 main display for a 4K on e) , so we’ll have to see if any of these offerings work for me. Pretty sure I won’t do a 3070 and a 3080 is more than I want to spend (not that you can get them at all right now), so it’s basically a question as to whether the performance is there with the 6800.

Welp, that’s all the motivation I needed!
In reality, I’ll probably wait until after the holiday season, so hopefully all of the testing and comparisons will be done by then. Th e price gouging too.

I have a Vega Frontier Edition and a Radeon Fury that I plan to sell once the new AMD top end GPU is released.

I am as well. My PC is getting old, running a GTX960 card. I can still run all modern games on medium to high (I’m not chasing FPS numbers, that’s obvious - I’m happy with keeping it over about 50-60). I usually have to turn down AA to the lowest. I use a 1920x
1080 monitor. with I think a 120fps cap.
I think that my next PC will be built using either used parts, or I might buy a somewhat new used rig. Used meaning 1 year old, max. I saw some ads for rigs with 2000-something graphics card for less than a third of the price if you wanted to build it new
. I think that here in Croatia nobody even thinks of buying used (I never did)
, so the market is pretty small and people have a hard time selling them. Not sure why they would want to sell a new PC but the ads are there...
The savings are absolutely fantastic. I can’t wait until my current
PC gets too old or
canned for some reason, it’ll give me an excuse to get a new one for cheap. I’ll probably wait out for the 3000-series to get more popular tho, that seems like a good time to get in.

I’m in exactly the same place as you with a 5700 XT in my desktop wanting more power, but not needing it since it powers the games I play on my 1440p monitor nicely.

I’m half tempted to buy an unwanted card off one of you chasing 4K gaming.

If I do get something I probably will have to try to sell it. Hate doing that, but I think it’s still worth enough that I should. But have to decide if I buy anything first.

I replied to you but there sure seems to be a lot of people looking to through money at new GPU.
Truth is I’m cheap yet I’d like to play some driving games that require a modern graphics card. Winter is long here.

AMD didn’t have to go this hard this October, but they did, and what a show of force . Jeez. They’re probably the most powerful x86 chipmaker in the world today, and come holiday season they’ll be EVERYWHERE.
Meanwhile, TSMC is behind the camera thinking: “you did well, my dear Lisa.”
